Baba's Departure from Flower Fruit Mountain (2024) Jenny Liu

Jenny Liu has been a fixture of the shop for many years now, and her reduction prints blending her personal and family experience with the Chinese zodiac have been a crowd favorite for two years running at Art on Paper. We came to Jenny this year to begin a series of large reduction woodblocks, the first of which is Baba's Departure from Flower Fruit Mountain, a 4-layer woodcut reduction print which overlays elements of the Buddhist classic Journey to the West with her father's own journey to the west in the early 80s.

About the Artist

studioliuluz (signed J. LIU) is the printmaking identity of Jenny Luzhen Liu. Based in Brooklyn, born in Queens, and a child of Chinese immigrant parents, she draws upon her collective cultural upbringing (past to present) and familial ancestry (real to imagined) as inspiration for her art. 

All her works are limited edition reduction relief prints on plywood or linoleum board. Each print will have slight variations due to the unique pull off the press. Hand printed with care at Shoestring Press.
